Located in the heart of Llandaf those who are lucky enough to find themselves living in Llandaf would know that one of the bus stops on the bus route is called the Black Lion, probably because the bus stop is right outside the pub. Which then begs the question in the years in which I decided that I liked the buses why did I never go into the Black Lion? I can't answer that but what I will say this is a fantastic pub. The word the immediately springs to mind is tavern with its 16th century look I was half expecting to see a drunken Shakespearean actor hunched over in the corner.
This is yet another Brains pub (in Wales surely not!) so as you guessed it that what's on tap. I have no problem with this as I love the stuff but others may not be so keen. Inside televisions as well as offering you the classic pub grub. There is always a quiz night and I would definitely consider this to be a contender for my favourite local pub (too bad I now live on the other side of the city). -

Not the best place for a drink in Llandaff. The Black Lion is a very ordinary pub, part of the Brains Group of licensed houses. There is a small locals bar which is featureless and somewhat dingy, and a larger lounge with little or no character. The usual selection of fruit machines are to be found throughout.
Nevertheless, the staff are most obliging and friendly, and the pub does its best to promote itself with quiz nights, occasional live music, darts and live sport on TV.
Unless you are a local fan of the Black Lion, I'd say go there only if you are desperate for a pint of Brains. -

Ahoy there. What do I spy here? A tavern that looks like a tavern. Charge!
Yes my lovelies, this is a proper pub, this is. Built as a hotel in the early 1900s, it is now a pub and a happy pub at that. A traditional community pub in Llandaff. Hard to miss because of the brilliant wood beam and white wall exterior, inside all is cosy and friendly. The sort of place you want to chance upon at the start of a storm and be forced to warm up with food, beer and community cheer. Get out of that wet jacket. Have a hot toddy.
The pub serves a small range of simple pub meals and they offer a good range of locally produced Brains cask ales which always makes someone like me happy. Tuck in. -

this is a lived in, average kind of pub. Great for meeting friends and for a lunch time drink if you happen to work nearby. The staff are nice and it's laid back. You can drink your favourite drink and relax, you don't have to dress up or anything, it's just laid back and enjoyable. You can play darts and generally have a nice time chatting to friends.
